Background of Item: The Department of Parks and Recreation has been awarded a donation valued at $120,000.00 from United States Soccer Federation Foundation, Inc. to convert underutilized tennis courts into mini pitch surfaces and goals for the purpose of facilitating youth and adult soccer activities at Juan Pablo Duarte Park. This resolution accepts the donation, and authorizes the City Manager to execute all necessary documents to accept the donation. All costs associated with this project will be paid directly by the Foundation, and the project will be at no cost to the City. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") owns the real property located at 1776 Northwest 28th Street, Miami, Florida, known as Juan Pablo Duarte Park ("Duarte Park"); and WHEREAS, the United States Soccer Federation Foundation, Inc., a foreign not for profit corporation ("Foundation"), is committed to helping young people embrace an active and healthy lifestyle, using soccer to cultivate critical life skills that pave the path to a better future; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to accept the donation of two (2) acrylic mini pitch surfaces and goals ("Mini Pitches") to be supplied and installed by the Foundation at Duarte Park; and WHEREAS, Mini Pitches are small, customized courts that are perfectly suited for organized soccer programs and informal games; and WHEREAS, Duarte Park's existing tennis courts will be modified in order to create the Mini Pitches; and WHEREAS, the estimated total value of the materials and labor required to install the two (2) Mini Pitches is one hundred twenty thousand dollars ($120,000.00); and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends the acceptance of the Foundation's donation of the Mini Pitches through an access, installation, and release agreement ("Agreement") in order to promote youth soccer within vulnerable communities in the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized1 to accept a donation of two (2) Mini Pitches, which have an estimated total value of one hundred twenty thousand dollars ($120,000.00) and are to be installed in Duarte Park, from the Foundation. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized to negotiate and execute an Agreement and any and all other necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement the acceptance of said donation. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ndez, City Attor 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
