A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO REVIEW THE CLAIMS MADE BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE 1809
BRICKELL TENANTS' ASSOCIATION AT THE JULY 26, 2018 MIAMI CITY
COMMISSION MEETING; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO
EXPLORE THE VALIDITY OF SAID CLAIMS AND EXPLORE ADDITIONAL
AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR AFFECTED RESIDENTS;
FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO REPORT HIS FINDINGS TO THE
CITY COMMISSION WITHIN NINETY (90) DAYS.
WHEREAS, 1809 Brickell Avenue, Miami, Florida ("1809 Brickell"), commonly referred to
as the Stanley Axlrod UTD Towers, is an affordable housing project that is the home to
approximately 400 senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, on July 26, 2018, the President ("Association's President") of the 1809
Brickell Tenants Association, Inc. ("Association") made a personal appearance at the Miami City
Commission meeting ("Meeting") to request, among other things, assistance in preserving the
affordability of 1809 Brickell; and
WHEREAS, at the Meeting, the Association's President claimed that in September 2019,
a federal government loan, which required the units of 1809 Brickell to remain affordable, will
mature and that the 400 senior residents living there would be forced to relocate; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Miami City Commission to explore the validity of these
claims; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Miami City Commission to protect the interests of all
affected residents of 1809 Brickell by exploring additional affordable housing opportunities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission directs the City Manager to review the claims made by
the Association's President at the Meeting and explore additional affordable housing
opportunities for all affected residents of 1809 Brickell.
Section 3. The City Manager shall report his findings to the City Commission within
ninety (90) days.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.
