A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR
ALL OF THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE RESIDENTS WHO HAVE SUFFERED THE
DEVASTATING EFFECTS OF HURRICANE MICHAEL; DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO COORDINATE WITH THE MAJOR MUNICIPALITIES IN THE
PANHANDLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AND EXPERTISE NECESSARY IN THE
HURRICANE RECOVERY EFFORTS; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT
A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY LEAGUE OF
CITIES.
WHEREAS, on October 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Florida
Panhandle as a high category 4 hurricane and was one of strongest storms in terms of
maximum sustained wind speed to strike the contiguous United States since Hurricane Andrew
in 1992; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City's") hearts and minds are with the communities
affected by Hurricane Michael in the Florida panhandle as they recover from the storm's
destruction and we empathize with those who are experiencing loss of property, safety,
routines, and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, the City has already deployed over one hundred (100) first responders,
including the Urban Search and Rescue Taskforce FL-2, as well as many other elements of the
City's Fire -Rescue and Police Departments; and
WHEREAS, the City has developed an expertise in dealing with recovery efforts following
major storms and hurricanes over the years and is desirous of extending its breadth of
knowledge and abilities to assist its friends in the Florida Panhandle;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission expresses its sympathy and support to
all Florida Panhandle residents that have suffered the devastating effects of Hurricane
Michael.
Section 3. The City Manager is directed to coordinate with the major
municipalities in the Florida panhandle to offer the City's services and expertise to assist
in the recovery efforts.
Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution the
Miami -Dade County League of Cities.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.'

1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City.
