PURPOSE OF ITEM:
An ordinance establishing the departments of the City of Miami as set forth and funded
pursuant to Resolution No. R-18-0193, adopted May 10th, 2018.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On May 10, 2018, Resolution No. R-18-0193 was adopted amending the Budget for FY
2017-18 and renaming, various City departments. Section 19 of the City Charter,
entitled "Creation of New Departments and Discontinuance of Departments," states that
departments are created, discontinued, or combined by ordinance adopted by the City
Commission. Therefore, this legislation ensures complies with the City Charter.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING
THE DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AS SET FORTH AND
FUNDED PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION NO. 18-0193 ADOPTED MAY 10,
2018, AND PURSUANT TO SECTION 19 OF THE CHARTER OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, TITLED "CREATION OF NEW
DEPARTMENTS; DISCONTINUANCE OF DEPARTMENTS";
CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 18-0193 adopted by the Miami City Commission
on May 10, 2018, the City of Miami's ("City") budget for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 was amended;
and
WHEREAS, as part of the amendment, the Department of Information Technology was
renamed the Department of Innovation and Technology; and
WHEREAS, as part of the amendment, the Department of Public Works was renamed
the Department of Resilience and Public Works; and
WHEREAS, as part of the amendment, the Office of Transportation Management was
abolished; and
WHEREAS, as part of the amendment, the Office of Resilience and Sustainability
remains as an office with a Chief Resilience Officer; and
WHEREAS, Section 19 of the Charter of the City of Miami, Florida ("Charter"), titled
"Creation of New Departments; Discontinuance of Departments," states that departments are
created, discontinued, or combined by ordinance adopted by the City Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Miami City Commission establishes the Departments of the City as set
forth and funded pursuant to Resolution No. 18-0193 adopted May 10, 2018 and pursuant to
Section 19 of the Charter.
Section 2. If any section, part of this section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this
Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 3. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately after final reading and
adoption thereof.
1 This Ordinance shall become effective as specified herein unless vetoed by the Mayor within ten (10)
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Ordinance, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission or upon the effective date stated
herein. whichever is later.
