Manager to accept a Grant from Keep America Beautiful (KAB), to provide the City of
Miami with 36,800 9-volt batteries valued at a total of approximately $127,328.00.
Background of Item:
The City of Miami, Department of Solid Waste (DSW) has been awarded the Keep
America Beautiful 2018 9-Volt Battery Grant. The retail value of each Duracell 9-volt
battery is $3.46 totaling 36,800 batteries valued at approximately $127,328.00. Various
city departments will provide the batteries to city residents to promote fire safety
education and carbon monoxide detection awareness.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT FROM KEEP AMERICA
BEAUTIFUL ("KAB") THE IN -KIND 2018 9-VOLT BATTERY KAB GRANT WHICH WILL
PROVIDE THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") WITH THIRTY-SIX THOUSAND EIGHT
HUNDRED (36,800) 9-VOLT BATTERIES VALUED AT A TOTAL OF
APPROXIMATELY ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-SEVEN THOUSAND THREE
HUNDRED TWENTY EIGHT DOLLARS ($127,328.00) ("GRANT") TO PROMOTE FIRE
SAFETY EDUCATION AND CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTION AWARENESS
PROGRAMS ("PROGRAMS"); FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO
THE CITY ATTORNEY, AND ANY OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS,
AGREEMENTS, AMENDMENTS, MODIFICATIONS, EXTENSIONS, AND
RENEWALS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, TO IMPLEMENT
THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT FOR SAID
PURPOSES FOR THE PROGRAMS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") through its Department of Solid Waste
("Department") has been awarded an in -kind grant from Keep America Beautiful ("KAB") to
provide the City with thirty-six thousand eight hundred (36,800) 9-volt batteries valued at a total
of approximately one hundred twenty-seven thousand three hundred twenty-eight dollars
($127,328.00) ("Grant"); and
WHEREAS, this initiative is comprised of a cooperative effort between the Department
and various City departments for its successful implementation; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Grant is to provide 9-volt batteries to City residents and
related educational programs to promote fire safety education and carbon monoxide detection
awareness ("Programs"); and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Department are requesting for the City
Commission to authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute, in a form acceptable to the
City Attorney, a Grant agreement and any other necessary documents, agreements,
amendments, modifications, extensions, and renewals, in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, to implement the acceptance and administration of said Grant for said purposes; and
WHEREAS, the necessary funds for the Department to coordinate the Programs for the
Grant are already budgeted in the Department's current fiscal year budget;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to accept from KAB the in -kind Grant to
promote the Programs.
Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized' to negotiate and execute a Grant
agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, and any other necessary documents,
agreements, amendments, modifications, extensions, and renewals, in a form acceptable to the
City Attorney, to implement the acceptance and administration of said Grant for said purposes
for the Programs.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney, including but not limited, to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
