A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE
PLACEMENT OF MARKER DESIGNATIONS PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-
136(1) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, IN
THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY LOCATED AT THE TRAFFIC MEDIAN ON
SOUTHWEST 13TH AVENUE, ALSO KNOWN AS CUBAN MEMORIAL
BOULEVARD, BETWEEN SOUTHWEST 8TH STREET AND SOUTHWEST 9TH
STREET, ADJACENT TO THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 820 SOUTHWEST
13TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AND/OR ON THE MEDIAN OF 13TH
AVENUE IN THE FIRST PROMINENT SPACE BEHIND THE BRIGADE 2506
ETERNAL TORCH TO COMMEMORATE THE CUBAN MEN AND WOMEN
THAT FOUGHT THE GUERILLA WAR AGAINST FIDEL CASTRO'S
COMMUNIST DICTATORSHIP BETWEEN 1960 AND 1966, SUBJECT TO ALL
APPLICABLE PERMITTING REQUIREMENTS.
SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Joe Carollo, Commissioner Wifredo (Willy) Gort,
Commissioner Manolo Reyes, Commissioner Ken Russell
WHEREAS, the members of the Organizacion Presidio Politico Historico Cubano desire
to place marker designations in the public right-of-way honoring the Cuban men and women
that fought the guerilla war against the communist Castro regime; and
WHEREAS, the Organizacion Presidio Politico Historico Cubano desires to place the
marker designations in the public right-of-way on Cuban Memorial Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, the marker for Manolo Fernandez presently located in the median of
Southwest 13th Avenue between Southwest 8th Street and Southwest 9th Street will be
relocated to a more suitable location on Southwest 13th Avenue between Southwest 9th and
Southwest 10t" Street; and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission wishes to commemorate the contributions of the
Cuban men and women who fought the guerilla war against Fidel Castro's communist
dictatorship between 1960 and 1966;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The placement of marker designations pursuant to Section 54-136(1) of the
Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, in the public right-of-way located at the traffic
median on Southwest 13th Avenue, also known as Cuban Memorial Boulevard, between
Southwest 8th Street and Southwest 9th Street as the first prominent space behind the Brigade

2506 Eternal Torch to commemorate the Cuban men and women that fought the guerilla war
against Fidel Castro's communist dictatorship between 1960 and 1966 is authorized' subject to
all applicable permitting requirements.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
