HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-18-0257City of Miami Resolution R-18-0257 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 4192 Final Action Date: 6/28/2018 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A LEASE AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA FOR THE CITY'S USE OF APPROXIMATELY 7,734 SQUARE FEET OF OFFICE SPACE AT THE LINDSEY HOPKINS TECHNICAL COLLEGE LOCATED AT 750 NORTHWEST 20TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA ("PREMISES"), AT AN ANNUAL RENT OF ONE DOLLAR ($1.00) PLUS A DAILY RATE OF ONE -THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED EIGHT DOLLARS AND NINETY-SEVEN CENTS ($1.808.97) FOR THIRTEEN (13) DAYS TOTALING APPROXIMATELY TWENTY THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED SIXTEEN DOLLARS AND SIXTY ONE CENTS ($23,516.61) FOR UTILITIES, CUSTODIAL AND JANITORIAL STAFF, AND SERVICES AND SECURITY STAFF FOR THE OPERATION OF THE PREMISES DURING THE ADDITIONAL DAYS WHEN SCHOOL WOULD OTHERWISE BE CLOSED. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") currently has offices at the property located at 750 Northwest 20th Street, Miami, Florida, also known as the Lindsey Hopkins Technical College, ("Technical College"), and desires to enter into a new lease agreement to remain at the Technical College; and WHEREAS, the Technical College currently serves as an educational/training center, has a location within close proximity to public transportation (Metrorail and Metrobus), and offers ample parking on site for patrons of the Technical College; and WHEREAS, the School Board of Miami -Dade County, Florida ("School Board") currently operates the Technical College and has agreed, subject to the terms and conditions contained in the new lease agreement ("Lease Agreement"), to allow for the City's continued use of a portion of the Technical College as a Workforce Development Office; and WHEREAS, the School Board and the City previously entered into a lease agreement dated March 7, 2012 for the use of approximately 7,734 square feet of space at the Technical College as a Workforce Development Office; and WHEREAS, said previous lease expired on June 30, 2015; and WHEREAS, the School Board and the City entered into a subsequent lease agreement dated July 1, 2015 ("Existing Agreement") for the City's use of approximately 7,734 square feet of space at the Technical College for the Workforce Development Office; and WHEREAS, the Existing Agreement expires on June 30, 2018; and City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 4192 (Revision:) Printed On: 4/1/2025 File ID: 4192 Enactment Number: R-18-0257 WHEREAS, the City has requested the Lease Agreement for a period of two (2) years commencing July 1, 2018 and ending June 30, 2020; and WHEREAS, the Existing Agreement and prior agreements allowed for the use of the facility for thirteen (13) days during the time the school is closed; and WHEREAS, the daily cost to the City for those thirteen (13) days is one thousand eight hundred eight dollars and ninety-seven cents ($1,808.97) per day for a total of approximately twenty-three thousand five hundred sixteen dollars and sixty-one cents ($23,516.61); NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to execute the Lease Agreement, in substantially the attached form, by and between the City and the School Board for the City's use of approximately 7,734 square feet of office spaces at the Technical College at an annual rate of one dollar ($1.00) plus a daily rate of one thousand eight hundred eight dollars and ninety-seven cents ($1,808.97) for utilities, custodial and janitorial staff, and services and security staff for the operation of the leased premises during the additional days when the Technical College would otherwise be closed. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: end ety Nttor ey 6/8/2018 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
