Hannon City Clerk Date: June 3, 2018 Subject: Virginia Key Beach Park Trust References: Agenda for June 14, 2018 Enclosures: List of members The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust was created to preserve the Virginia Key Beach Park in cooperation with the Department of Parks and Recreation and other City departments in a manner consistent with the environmental health, public use, historical importance of the Park and the aspirations of the African American community and shall propose policy, planning, and design to ensure maximum community utilization, enjoyment, and maintenance of the Park as an open green space compatible with its historical and recreational characteristics and accessible to the public. Ordinance 13065, adopted on May 14, 2009, which amended Chapter 38, Article 6 of the City Code, authorized the waiver of the eight -consecutive year term limitation to allow members of the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust to be reconsidered annually for an additional one-year term by a unanimous vote of the members of the City Commission. Six (6) appointments are required at this time. • Mayor Francis Suarez has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by: 1. Gene Tinnie, incumbent, whose term expired on November 15, 2017, has served as a member since February 8, 2001, and will require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5) vote of the Commission."2 • Chair Keon Hardemon has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by: 1. Mavrikis Bolden, incumbent, whose term expired on April 10, 2016.3 • Vice Chair Ken Russell has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by: 1. Maud Newbold, incumbent, whose term expired on December 8, 2017, has served as a member since February 8, 2001, and will require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5) vote of the Commission.5 • Commissioner Joe Carollo has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by: 1. Gustavo Godoy, incumbent, whose term expired on October 8, 2016, has served as a member since March 10, 2005, and will require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5) vote of the Commission.6 • Commissioner Manolo Reyes has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by: 1. Richard Townsend, incumbent, whose term expired on November 15, 2017, and will require a 4/5ths waiver of the residency requirement, per Section 2-884(a) of the City Code.'' 8 For your convenience, we are including a copy of the membership of the trust. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the June 14, 2018, Commission Agenda.
