A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $200,000.00
("GRANT AWARD") FROM THE ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON FOUNDATION, A
NEW JERSEY NOT FOR PROFIT CORPORATION ("ROBERT WOOD"),
FACILITATED THROUGH THE CENTER FOR COMMUNITY INVESTMENT
FOR CONNECT CAPITAL PHASE 2 COMMENCING JULY 1, 2018 FOR A
PERIOD OF TWENTY-FOUR (24) MONTHS; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY AND ALL
DOCUMENTS, INCLUDING AMENDMENTS, EXTENSIONS, RENEWALS, AND
MODIFICATIONS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, AS
MAY BE NECESSARY IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF
AND COMPLIANCE WITH SAID GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a New Jersey Not For Profit
Corporation ("Robert Wood"), is the nation's largest philanthropy organization dedicated solely
to health; and
WHEREAS, the Center for Community Investment ("CCI") was established in 2017 as an
initiative of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, an Arizona Nonprofit Private Operating
Foundation; and
WHEREAS, CCI is a leadership development, research, and capacity building initiative
that helps communities attract and deploy capital at scale and in alignment with community
priorities to improve the health and well-being of residents; and
WHEREAS, CCI's Connect Capital initiative ("Connect Capital") is organized into two (2)
phases wherein Phase 1 provides an intensive four (4) month engagement during which CCI
provides participating teams with coaching and the opportunity to attend a two (2) day Learning
Community event and Phase 2 supports concrete action rather than initial exploration or
planning; and
WHEREAS, on April 30, 2018, the City of Miami ("City") responded to a Request for
Proposals for the Connect Capital Phase 2 initiative; and
WHEREAS, on May 21, 2018, CCI informed the City that the City's proposal was
recommended for Connect Capital Phase 2 funding; and
WHEREAS, the funding, which is a $200,000.00 grant award ("Grant Award"), is
expected to commence on July 1, 2018 and run for twenty-four (24) months; and
WHEREAS, the Grant Award from Robert Wood and facilitated through CCI will allow
the City of Miami's Department of Community and Economic Development to hire a Housing

Development Coordinator for two (2) years to help create and prioritize a pipeline of feasible
housing projects by working closely with neighborhood groups and developers; and
WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends the acceptance of the Grant Award for
the Connect Capital Phase 2 program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The acceptance of the Grant Award from Robert Wood facilitated through
CCI for Connect Capital Phase 2 commencing July 1, 2018 for a period of twenty-four (24)
months is accepted.
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized to negotiate and execute any and all
documents, including amendments, extensions, renewals, and modifications, in a form
acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement the acceptance of and compliance with
said Grant Award.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
