A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ESTABLISH A PROGRAM ENTITLED "THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY")
DEPARTMENT OF FIRE -RESCUE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ("EMS")
CADET PROGRAM" THAT PROVIDES MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS'
STUDENTS, ACADEMIC, CAREER AND CLINICAL INSTRUCTION IN EMS BY
UTILIZING RESOURCES AND PERSONNEL OF THE CITY'S DEPARTMENT OF
FIRE -RESCUE; FURTHER ESTABLISHING A SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT FOR
SAID PROGRAM, CONSISTING OF FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $58,980,
ALLOCATED FROM ACCOUNT NO. 00001.181000.891000.0,0,
WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City's") Department of Fire -Rescue wishes to establish the
City's Fire -Rescue Emergency Medical Services ("EMS") Cadet Program (" Program") that is a training
and educational program designed for high school students who are pursuing careers in emergency
medical services ("EMS") and are enrolled in Miami -Dade County Public Schools' ("MDCPS") EMS
training programs; and
WHEREAS. the Program will be carried out in affiliation with MDCPS and will provide
academic, career and clinical training and education in EMS services to said students; and
WHEREAS, the Program will prepare students to become certified as emergency medical
technicians and will be conducted pursuant to the guidelines of the Florida Department of Education;
and
WHEREAS, the City's Department of Fire -Rescue will provide the personnel and resources for
the Program; and
WHEREAS. the City also wishes to establish a Special Revenue Project with funds in the
amount of $58,980, allocated from Account No. 00001.181000.891000.0.0,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained fn the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized(1) to establish the Program, that provides MDCPS'
students, academic, career and clinical instruction in EMS by utilizing resources and personnel of the
City's Department of Fire -Rescue.
Section 3. The following new Special Revenue Project is established as described herein:

Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature
of the Mayor. {2}
Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter
and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
