Background of Item: The Office of Grants Administration is seeking City Commission authorization to accept $25,000.00 in grant funding from the Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Interim Award for excellence in the practice of Community Engagement for the increase in physical activity through various programs and the built environment in the Little Havana neighborhood. WHEREAS, in February 2014, the Health Foundation of South Florida launched an initiative aimed at strengthening community capacity to collaboratively plan and collectively carryout strategies to improve health; and WHEREAS, after an extensive selection process, the Heath Foundation of South Florida selected the neighborhood of Little Havana to invest up to Three Million Seven Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($3,750,000.00) over a six (6) year period; and WHEREAS, "root causes" of health issues in Little Havana have been identified based on an assessment of available data and input from community residents, which resulted in a comprehensive Community Action Plan aimed at addressing those root causes that have been prioritized; and WHEREAS, since 2015, the City of Miami ("City") has been responsible for the administration and coordination of the Live Healthy Little Havana Project to ensure broad, multi - agency, and resident representation in the initiative; and WHEREAS, The Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Interim Award for excellence in the practice of Community Engagement ("The Challenge"), has awarded the City Twenty -Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) for the Live Healthy Little Havana ("Project") for having demonstrated a great commitment to the goals of The Challenge by creating healthier, equitable communities through innovative engagement and partnerships in Little Havana; and WHEREAS, the funds will increase physical activity through various programs and the built environment in the Little Havana neighborhood; and WHEREAS, the City wishes (1) to accept the grant award in a total amount not to exceed $25,000.00 from The Challenge and (2) to establish and appropriate the grant from a new Special Revenue Project Fund ("Fund") in order to fund the Program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized' to accept a grant award in a total amount not to exceed Twenty -Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) from The Challenge to complement and enhance the Project. Section 3. The following new Special Revenues Project Fund is established and resources are appropriated as described herein: FUND TITLE: Live Healthy Little Havana Initiative RESOURCES: The Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge $25,000.00 APPROPRIATIONS: Live Healthy Little Havana Initiative $25,000.00 Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ndez, ity kkor ey 5/1/2018 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited, to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
