A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION WAIVING THE CITY OF MIAMI
POLICE DEPARTMENT AND FIRE -RESCUE DEPARTMENT COSTS REQUIRED
PURSUANT TO SECTION 19-9 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA,
AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), ENTITLED "SPECIAL OFF -DUTY FIRE -RESCUE
SERVICES", AND SECTION 54-6.3(C)(18) OF THE CITY CODE, ENTITLED
"CRITERIA FOR ISSUANCE OF SPECIAL EVENTS PERMIT", FOR THE MIAMI
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., DAY PARADE ("PARADE") TO BE HELD ON
FEBRUARY 19, 2018.
WHEREAS, the Martin Luther King, Jr., ("Dr. King") Day Parade ("Parade") in 2018 will
also be commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the loss of Dr. King; and
WHEREAS, the Parade is an event for all members of our community to gather and
commemorate and celebrate the life of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. King and his
achievements toward achieving equality for every community across the country; and
WHEREAS, the Parade will include high school marching bands, athletes, cheerleaders,
floats, cars, fire trucks, and dignitaries; and
WHEREAS, the Parade is being held in cooperation and in conjunction with the City of
Miami Police Department ("MPD"), Fire -Rescue Department ("Fire -Rescue"), and others; and
WHEREAS, the Special Events Detail costs for the required support of the MPD and
Fire -Rescue is estimated to be $48,000.00 and is a financial burden for the Parade; and
WHEREAS, the costs are imposed by Sections 19-9 and 54-6.3(c)(18) of the Code of
the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code") and waiving the associated costs will result
in a negligible financial impact to the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The MPD and Fire -Rescue costs required pursuant to Sections 19-9 and 54-
6.3 of the City Code for the Parade to be held on February 19, 2018 taking the route of
Northwest 54 Street from Northwest 12 Avenue to Northwest 32 Avenue, ending at the Martin
Luther King, Jr., Memorial Park are waived.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.'

1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
