RESOLUTION TO UPHOLD THE DADE COUNTY HISTORIC
PRESERVATION BOARD'S HISTORIC DESIGNATION OF
THE PARROT JUNGLE
WHEREAS, the Dade County Historic Preservation Board
has reconsidered the designation of the Parrot Jungle as a
Historic site, and
WHEREAS, the owners of the Parrot Jungle have appealed the
historic designation to the Board of County Commissioners, and
WHEREAS, the Parrot Jungle, which opened in 1936, is over
fifty (50) years old, and is of exceptional importance because it
is.
a) one of a kind; b) directly related to a major theme in
the region's development; c) significantiin•multiple areas Which
can include history, architecture, landscape design, and
archaeology, and
WHEREAS, the owners still have a right of an additional
appeal before the Historic Preservation Board on the basis of
economic hardship,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Metro -Dade Board of
County Commissioners uphold the designation of the Parrot Jungle
as a Dade County Historic Site.
The foregoing resolution was offered by Commissioner
Joseph M. Gersten , who moved its adoption, the
motion was seconded by Exxoncts=wpoex Mayor Stephen P. Clark
and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows:
