City Clerk Ransom Everglades has been and shall continue to be committed to preserving the natural environment as much as possible. The original tree evaluations for the previous SAP and the initial evaluations of the existing trees on the La Brisa property were completed by the arborist Robert Brennan. Unfortunately, Mr. Brennan passed away prior to the completion of this SAP. Ransom Everglades hired Curtis + Rogers Design Studio to complete the SAP and continue to guide them through the upcoming transitions on the campus. Curtis + Rogers has five Registered Landscape Architects and two ISA Certified Arborists (Aida Curtis + Jennie Rogers) as well as the ongoing consultant services of Lisa Hammer (Horticulturist & Arborist). Of the 99 Trees/Palms proposed to be removed, - 50% were evaluated to be Hazardous or Poor in condition. Another 47% are in only fair condition. Many of these trees were damaged by severe pruning by the previous owner. See Sheets E13-E16 for specific listings and evaluations of these trees. Every effort will be made to preserve the specimen trees and eliminate any invasive species. Where there is existing vegetation it shall be protected and remain. Where there are gaps between trees, new large shade trees shall be planted. On Royal Road, this includes the addition of Street trees to the existing small native trees that currently line the street, and the addition of understory shrubs and/or groundcovers where there is currently only rock. On Main Highway, where there is no room for Street trees, the exisiting trees behind the coral rock walls will stay, and some additional trees will be added on the La Brisa Property behind the wall. On the North property line where there is visibility through the existing vegetation, both shade trees and understory planting shall be added.
