To the Miami DDA Nominating Committee:
The intent of this letter is to inform you of my interest in serving on the Miami Downtown Development
Authority Board of Directors. I am fully aware of the commitments that this appointment would entail,
including participating in regular board meetings, committee meetings and other related activities.
Since 2012, I have been a business owner in the Brickell district of the DDA. Pipeline Workspaces —the
business I co-founded — is a shared workspace that serves as a dynamic community where literally
several hundred DDA-based businesses operate. As a result of my daily interaction with the countless
people that make up the companies in our neighborhood, I have developed a profound and unique
understanding of their needs, desires, and interests. I know where they are from, what drives their
decisions, how they spend their free time, how they move around, their frustrations, what they enjoy
most about the area. Many of these business owners and workers # now know on a personal basis and
consider to be personal friends, and it is my desire to contribute to their ongoing success.
I also live in the area, in the building directly across the street from my business. When I moved into the
1060 Brickell #wilding, l decided to forgo owning a car and deeply integrated myself into all aspects of
the community. I also started Uber-ing everywhere I go, perhaps a desperate attempt to latch onto my
youth and pass as a Millennial — however, being that i am twice the age of most Millennials, I
unfortunately do not qualify. The fact that i spend virtually all aspects of my life in this area — sleeping,
eating, working, exercising, social life, health care, basically everything — not only means that I
understand the ebb and flow of the community, but 1 am also heavily Invested in ensuring that this
thriving neighborhood continues to develop in the most positive way possible.
In support of this pursuit, I am interested in all committees that were listed, although t may have an
inclination toward the Business Development & Marketing and the Quality of Life committees.
The qualifications I have to join the Board mostly have to do with a broad array of experiences and
commitments to community. i was President of my condo association in Miami Beach for 13 years — a
thankless job, but one I assumed out of necessity for the preservation of the value of my home and that
of my neighbors. My commitment to public service is reflected in many of my interests, perhaps most
obviously in the education foundation I started 10 years ago, Developing Minds Foundation.
I have also worked in both the public and private sectors, contributing to my understanding of how the
interests of the two are deeply intertwined. In government, 1 worked as an aide to U.S. Representative
Joseph P. Kennedy ll and to U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy. My private sector experience is varied, ranging
from starting and running companies, to serving in executive roles for Fortune 500 companies. The
attached resume has more detail.
I received a bachelor's degree at University of Florida and a master in public policy at Harvard University.
Please know that I take this opportunity very seriously and would be honored to join this Board.
Best,
Philippe Houdard
