The Commission on the Status of Women was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the City
Commission, including advising on any possible barrier which may impede the participation of
women in City sponsored programs and activities; to work toward legislation granting women
equality before the law; to inspire in women the desire for self-improvement and pride of being,
regardless of age, marital status, race, color or creed; to seek for every woman the opportunities equal
to her potential and responsibility; to seek opportunities for and to encourage the active involvement
of women in matters pertaining to community progress; to encourage capable women in roles of
leadership.
Five (5) appointments are needed at this time.
• Vice Chair Ken Russell has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Christian Guerrier, incumbent, whose term expired on February 11, 2017.1
• Commissioner Wifredo (Willy) Gort has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Rosa De Sanchez, incumbent, whose term expired on September 8, 2017.2
2. Vacant. (Brenda Betancourt resigned effective January 30, 2017)3
• Commissioner Frank Carollo has two (2) nominations for seats currently:
1. Vacant. (Margarita Fernandez resigned effective October 23, 2014)4
2. Vacant. (Renita Holmes resigned effective May 4, 2017)5
