The smaller version of Fort Lauderdale's mammoth boat show kicks off at 7 tonight, with 40'lavishly decorated boats expected to take part in the four -mile boat parade spon- sored by the Miami Outboard Club. "We are hoping that one day it will expand so much that it will be just as big as the Fort Lauderdale show," said club 'manager Robert Alderegufa, referring to the Winterfest Boat .'Parade in Broward. "But for now,. it's something different once a year." Thousands of spectators will be able to see the gleaming flo- tilla of boats from the MacAr- thur Causeway, Bayside and the Port of Miami. The parade starts off at the Miami Outboard Club Docks, winds around Hibiscus and Star islands and heads toward Downtown Miami through Government Cut before it passes Bayside Marketplace and makes its way back to the club. The Holiday Boat Parade in Miami began with 15 boats about four years ago after a 'group of friends wanted to do something "for fun," Aldere- guia said. It slowly began expanding every year. "We all participate because we enjoy this, it's not for show," said Joaquin Jimenez. Especially this year, after all that we are going through because of the attacks on Sept. After the parade is over at about 10 p.m., the Miami Out- board Club will sell some 350 pounds of paella at the club for anyone wanting to continue the party during an awards cere- mony. Proceeds from the event benefit the private club's youth foundation, which was created to teach disadvantaged kids how to enjoy water -related activities like swimming, fish- ing and boating. "Most of what it is is a party to do something together for our youth and to get everyone . involved," Aldercgufa said. • Submitted into the public record k r itemfs) %E.3 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • 0 • • • 0 • • • • • • • 4 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • i Vg 141.1, A.. rt.. We have provided toys to Centro Matter, Stadium Apartments, San Juan Bosco's Learning Center, The Ronald McDonald House at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami Riverside Elementary and The Catholic Charities Child Development Services in Miami among others, making sure no kid within their organizations go home without a toy. The toys are collected from members and friends, and boxes are placed at several businesses belonging to our club members. The club purchases the remaining toys to complete the necessary quantity. The toys are sorted by age group to assure that each kid receives an age appropriate gift. Submitted into the public record for ite (s) on 9/ 4/A I .
