HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-17-0480City of Miami Resolution R-17-0480 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 2913 Final Action Date: 10/12/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL STEPS NECESSARY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NEGOTIATING AND EXECUTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ("CITY'S") CURRENT INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, IN ORDER TO ADD THE LITTLE HAITI TROLLEY ROUTE TO THE CITY'S TROLLEY SYSTEM PROVIDING SERVICE FROM NORTHEAST/NORTHWEST 36TH STREET TO NORTHEAST/NORTHWEST 84TH STREET ALONG NORTHEAST 2ND AVENUE AND NORTHWEST 2ND AVENUE WITH A LOOP FROM NORTHEAST 2ND AVENUE TO BISCAYNE BOULEVARD ALONG NORTHEAST 61 ST STREET AND NORTHEAST 62ND STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") currently operates a multitude of trolleys in the Allapattah, Biscayne, Brickell, Coconut Grove, Coral Way, Downtown, Health District, Little Havana, Overtown, and Wynwood areas; and WHEREAS, the trolleys are utilized by residents, tourists, and commuters; and WHEREAS, Northwest 2nd Avenue, Northeast 2nd Avenue, Northeast/ Northwest 36th Street, Northwest/Northeast 79th Street, Northeast 61 st Street, Northeast 62nd Street, and Northeast/Northwest 84th Street are major arterials in the City; and WHEREAS, the proposed Little Haiti Trolley route would connect with the existing Biscayne and Wynwood Trolley routes, increasing the overall efficiency of travel for all riders in those communities; and WHEREAS, the Little Haiti community is one that has been historically underserved by transit within the City; and WHEREAS, a trolley route in that area would greatly enhance the neighborhood, resident transit capabilities as well as community interconnectedness; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. The City Manager is authorized1 to take any and all steps necessary, including but not limited to, negotiating and executing an amendment to the City's current Interlocal Agreement with Miami -Dade County, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to add a Little Haiti Trolley Route to the City's trolley system running from Northeast/ Northwest 36th Street to Northeast/Northwest 84th Street along Northeast 2nd Avenue and Northwest 2nd Avenue with a loop from Northeast 2nd Avenue to Biscayne Boulevard along Northeast 62nd Street and Northeast 61st Street, Miami, Florida. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ndez, ity Attor ey 10/2/2017 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
