EMT/Firefighter Recruitment Program

Program Title: City of Miami — Many Women Strong Inspire and Expose Women to EMT/Firefighter Careers
Focus Area of Program
Increased education and awareness of eligible women within the City of Miami to the occupational industry of
EMT/Firefighters.
Program Summary
Grant funds will be used to support an increase in women understanding the vast opportunities available to them
through a career in the EMT/Firefighter industry. In the past the profession of firefighter was seen as a male
dominated field. The City of Miami — Many Women Strong initiative powered by the Overtown Youth Center seeks
to increase education and awareness of EMT/'Firefighter as a career of choice.
Education for an Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) consists of 250 hours of class room instruction, skills
practice in a laboratory, hospital emergency room and ambulance experience, and a field internship. Instruction in
basic life support including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), physical assessment, bandaging and splinting,
spinal immobilization, airway management, childbirth and other essential skills are part of the curriculum. While
tuitions vary, our incentive supports include, certification application, uniform acquisition and EMT-B Practical
Exam and National Registry written exam supports, support of academic books, which are not included in tuition.
Additional supports would include networking opportunities with local firehouses. (see attached budget narrative)

The City of Miami — Many Women Strong initiative will be powered by the Overtown Youth Center.
Outcome Measures
This grant funding will support the following metrics:
• Increased education and awareness of the EMT/Firefighter pipeline as a career choice for women.
• Increased economic mobility of women through the occupational choice of EMT/Firefighter.
• Increased the bandwidth of highly qualified female candidates into the EMT/Firefighter field.

JProvider Engagement
As the grant administrator, the Overtown Youth Center will be responsible for engaging prospective recruits to
increase education and awareness of the EMT/Firefighter industry.
Target Population
Young women within the City of Miami, having graduated high school.
Overtown Youth Center Program Responsibilities
The Overtown Youth Center (OYC) will serve as the agency to provide the support, identification, and recruitment
strategy. OYC will be responsible for distributing the incentive -based rewards for the City of Miami- Many Women
Strong initiative.
As the noted agency, the Overtown Youth Center will be responsible for the direction and control of the delivery of
recruitment and support engagement:
A. Distribute outreach and marketing material
B. Engage local fitness partners in seeking eligible candidates
C. Distribution of milestone incentives for all candidates
D. Creation of a quarterly report of recruitment and milestone efforts of recruits
