PROGRAM: Stardom Up- District 4 Student Technology Engagement
BACKGROUND
Stardom Up is an education and engagement non-profit with a mission to deeply engage young,
traditionally disadvantaged students and their families in their technology and innovation ecosystem. We
do this by inspiring students to become "star" creators using technology. We also engage parents to
understand the importance of this opportunity and the available tools. Stardom Up runs its flexible
program through a variety of curriculum options and locations. For example, the curriculum ranges from
on -site events at Miami -Dade County Public Schools to off -site events with community partners. The
general programming follows three (3) critical stages of engagement: (1) Inspire, (2) Inform, and [3)
Involve. We combine in -person programs with an online platform to optimize our performance metrics.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
HOW IT WORKS
Inspire: The first step in Stardom Up's track is meaningful exposure to technology and innovation.
A location representative (e.g. admin, teacher, public park leader) coordinates with Stardom Up to set
best time, date, and selects from Stardom Up course options to best fit the needs of target audience.
Course options can be discussed upon contact, but range from student programs to parent programs, or a
combination (family -driven). Options range from 60-120 minute introductions to customized courses
[e.g. our concepts are inserted into science or math subject matter)! This phase also includes substantial
work on computational literacy and thinking. Please reach us via website, phone (or email
(Lu@stardomup.com).
Inform: Once a course option is executed, Stardom Up moves participants to genuine engagement.
Stardom Up uses its online platform as a tool for continuous engagement and tracking of program
participants. With online course offerings, participants can explore their newfound curiosity in a way that
is literally rewarding. Completion of Stardom Up programs and courses result in "Stardom Up" points.
These points are then used to become involved directly in their technology and innovation ecosystem.
InvO1Ve: Once participants are meaningfully exposed and become engaged, performance is our
remaining aim.
Participants exchange points earned during the "inform" phase to experience rewards like field trips,
workshops, community projects, gaming experiences, visits to tech campuses and community
connections with innovative community partners. Depending on the location, success is measured on
participant performance. For example, science students who go through Stardom Up programs are
correlated to increased academic performance.
