The Commission on the Status of Women was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the City
Commission, including advising on any possible barrier which may impede the participation of
women in City sponsored programs and activities; to work toward legislation granting women
equality before the law; to inspire in women the desire for self-improvement and pride of being,
regardless of age, marital status, race, color or creed; to seek for every woman the opportunities equal
to her potential and responsibility; to seek opportunities for and to encourage the active involvement
of women in matters pertaining to community progress; to encourage capable women in roles of
leadership.
Seven (7) appointments are needed at this time.
• Mayor Tomas Regalado has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by: 1
1. Allyson Warren, incumbent, whose term expired on March 12, 2016, has served as a
member since July 14, 1998, and will require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5)
vote of the Commission.
• Chair Keon Hardemon has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Kimberly Sands, incumbent, whose term expires on June 9, 2017.
• Vice Chair Ken Russell has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Christian Guerrier, incumbent, whose term expired on February 11, 2017.2
2. Vacant. (Barbara Marquez resigned effective January 29, 2014) 3
• Commissioner Wifredo (Willy) Gort has one (1) nomination for a seat currently:4

For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of
this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the June 8, 2017,
Commission agenda.
