Watson Island Resolution
May 15, 2017
Whereas...the City of Miami Commission will be considering the future of Watson
Island and the Flagstone project on Thursday, May 25, and
Whereas... the very health, safety, quality of life and economic opportunity of the
residents, businesses and visitors to Miami Beach are threatened with a worsening
traffic crisis,
Whereas... causeway access to Miami Beach from the mainland is essential to the
welfare of Miami Beach,
Whereas... traffic studies conducted by Miami Beach in 2015 and 2016 confirm that
Flagstone's current Major Use Special Permit as approved in 2004 and 2007 has a
significant negative impact on the main artery between Miami and Miami Beach that
lowers the Level of Service to below City of Miami Beach standards and in some cases
designated "failure" intersections, and
Whereas, the State of Florida provides a process whereby one jurisdiction that is
potentially harmed by the actions of another may require consultation between the
jurisdictions to mitigate the damage,
