HomeMy WebLinkAboutSubmittal-Michael Barrineau-Watson Island ResolutionSubmitted into the public (J record f•r ite (s S on 5 City Clerk Watson Island Resolution May 15, 2017 Whereas...the City of Miami Commission will be considering the future of Watson Island and the Flagstone project on Thursday, May 25, and Whereas... the very health, safety, quality of life and economic opportunity of the residents, businesses and visitors to Miami Beach are threatened with a worsening traffic crisis, Whereas... causeway access to Miami Beach from the mainland is essential to the welfare of Miami Beach, Whereas... traffic studies conducted by Miami Beach in 2015 and 2016 confirm that Flagstone's current Major Use Special Permit as approved in 2004 and 2007 has a significant negative impact on the main artery between Miami and Miami Beach that lowers the Level of Service to below City of Miami Beach standards and in some cases designated "failure" intersections, and Whereas, the State of Florida provides a process whereby one jurisdiction that is potentially harmed by the actions of another may require consultation between the jurisdictions to mitigate the damage, THE ONLY COMMUNITY BASED NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION PROVIDING MIAMI BEACH RESIDENTS A COHESIVE VOICE FOR CITY-WIDE ISSUES THAT IMPACT THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE. miamibeachunited.org \� - \c t -\\)0\m„\\A4,„0j\00\1(1/A 3� on Therefore, The Board of Miami Beach United requests that: Submitted into the public n record fo/.itet(5) City Clerk 1) the Mayor, recognizing Sections 163 and 164 of the Florida Statutes on Interjurisdictional Mediation, communicate to Miami the desire of Miami Beach to enter discussions with the City of Miami on mitigating the possible impacts of Flagstone's Island Garden's project on Watson Island, and 2) requests that such meetings be held in public so that the citizens and businesses of Miami Beach may view the process in real time.
