Background of Item: The Florida Department of Health is authorized by Chapter 401, Part II, Florida Statutes, to provide grants to Boards of County Commissioners for the purpose of improving and expanding pre -hospital emergency medical services within Miami -Dade County. This grant will provide new "EMS" equipment, computer hardware, materials, supplies and services, training and seminars which will enhance the capabilities of the EMS System and improve the level of services provided to the City's residents. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant in the amount of $33,377.00 apportioned by Miami -Dade County, Florida ("County") from the State of Florida ("State"), Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, pursuant to Chapter 401, Part II, Florida Statutes, to improve and expand pre -hospital Emergency Medical Services ("EMS"); and WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Miami -Dade County Board of County Commissioners that the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 funding for the County, from the State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services Program entitled "Florida EMS Grant Program for the Counties," in the amount of $33,377.00, be apportioned and passed through the City's Department of Fire -Rescue ("Fire -Rescue") for the improvement, expansion, and continuation of its pre -hospital EMS projects in Fiscal Year 2016-2017; and WHEREAS, the Fire -Rescue work plan includes the implementation of the EMS Equipment project, which provides materials, services, computer hardware, software, and supplies, to enhance the service capabilities of the EMS System and improve the level of service provided to the residents of the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are appropriated as described below: FUND TITLE: EMS County Grant #C5013 Award Fiscal Year 2016-2017 RESOURCES: State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services Program, entitled "Florida EMS Grant Program for Counties" through Miami -Dade County $33,377.00 APPROPRIATIONS: $33,377.00 Section 3. The City Manager is authorized' to accept said grant award and to execute the Grant Letter of Understanding/Agreement, in substantially the attached form. Section 4. The City Manager is further authorized to negotiate and execute any other necessary related grant documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to implement acceptance and administration of said grant. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ndez, ity Attor ey 5/12/2017 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
