Accept Funds - Purchase of Trolley Vehicles
Purpose of Item:
To authorize the City Manager to accept funds in the amount of $400,000.00 from the
Coconut Grove Business Improvement District for the purchase of two (2) new trolley
vehicles to assist in servicing the Coconut Grove Miami Trolley Route.
Background of Item:
At the January 27, 2016 Executive Committee meeting, the Coconut Grove Business
Improvement District approved funds in an amount not to exceed $400,000.00 to
provide the City for the purchase of two (2) trolleys. The new trolley vehicles will be
utilized specifically to further enhance the Miami Trolley services within and around the
Coconut Grove area.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ($400,000.00), FROM THE
COCONUT GROVE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT ("COCONUT GROVE
BID"), FOR THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) NEW TROLLEY VEHICLES;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE FUNDING ACCEPTANCE
AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, FOR
SAID PURPOSE; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO OPERATE
AND MAINTAIN THE TROLLEYS AS PART OF THE CURRENT MIAMI TROLLEY
SYSTEM AND TO COLLABORATE WITH THE COCONUT GROVE BID TO
DETERMINE APPROPRIATE ROUTE IMPLEMENTATION.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") manages a municipal trolley system, known as the
Miami Trolley, consisting of ten (10) interconnected routes within the areas of Allapattah,
Biscayne, Brickell, Coconut Grove, Coral Way, the Health District, Little Havana, Overtown, the
Stadium, and Wynwood; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Trolley System enhances connections to existing Miami -Dade
Transit ("MDT") MetroBus. MetroRail, and MetroMover services, creating a more efficient
multimodal transportation system within the City, including the Coconut Grove area; and
WHEREAS, the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District ("Coconut Grove BID") at
its Executive Committee meeting on February 10, 2016 approved the allocation of an amount
not to exceed four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000.00) for the purchase of two (2)
additional trolleys to further enhance the Miami Trolley System within and around the Coconut
Grove area; and
WHEREAS, the City deems it beneficial and in the City's best interests to accept the
funds from the Coconut Grove BID to fund the purchase of the two (2) new trolley vehicles for
City use in and around the Coconut Grove area; and
WHEREAS, the City shall maintain and operate the two (2) new trolleys as part of the
Miami Trolley System and shall collaborate with the Coconut Grove BID in determining the best
route implementation through the Coconut Grove area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to accept funds from the Coconut Grove BID
in an amount not to exceed four hundred thousand ($400,000.00) for the purchase of two (2)
new trolley vehicles to enhance the Miami Trolley System in and around the Coconut Grove
area.
Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized' to execute the Funding Acceptance
and Acknowledgement, in substantially the attached form, for said purpose.
Section 4. The City shall maintain and operate the two (2) new trolleys as part of the
Miami Trolley System and collaborate with the Coconut Grove BID on trolley route
implementation in and around Coconut Grove.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code
provisions.
2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
