Discussion - Building Permit Process Review
Purpose of Item:
An update presentation on the continuous review of the Building Permit Process.
Background of Item:
The Administration conducted an in-depth review of the building permit process,
focusing specifically on smaller projects (on private property) in order to adopt
enhancements for an expedited service delivery. The project team carried out additional
in-depth building data review, conducted a workshop with users of the process
(architects, engineers, plans runners and permit expediters, and owners, etc.), met with
staff at all levels of the City and other governmental agencies, and reviewed available
technology in order to understand opportunities for improvement. An action plan has
been implemented. The goal is to clearly achieve a significant reduction in timelines for
each typical building permit request. We note that this is a continuous process and
further refinement of targets and timelines are expected.
