Purpose of Item:
The nature of this item is to seek City Commission's authorization for an increase to the
previous authorized expenditure limits in an amount of $25,000 for the purchase of
lifeguard equipment and aquatic center supplies, necessary to operate and provide pool
recreation services; allocating funds from the Department of Parks and Recreation
(Parks) General Fund, subject to the availability of funds and budgetary approval at the
time of need.
Background of Item:
On June 26, 2015, the City Manager approved accessing of the Brevard County
(County) Contract B-6-15-44 for Lifeguard Equipment and Aquatic Center Supplies,
which was competitively solicited and awarded to Water Safety Products, E-Lifeguard,
and The Lifeguard Store. Due to an increase in usage at City Aquatic Centers, there
has also been an increase in expenditures to fully stock the facilities with the safety
equipment necessary to operate and provide pool recreation services. The current
amount allotted ($50,000) needs to be increased due to the additional usage of the
aquatic centers during the summer months, and to provide for expenditures throughout
the remaining renewal period, which began March 27, 2016 and expires March 26,
2017. Estimated contract year impact is $40,000.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE
TO THE AUTHORIZED EXPENDITURE LIMITS IN AN AMOUNT OF $25,000.00, FOR
A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $75,000.00, FOR THE PURCHASE OF
LIFEGUARD EQUIPMENT AND AQUATIC CENTER SUPPLIES FROM WATER
SAFETY PRODUCTS, E-LIFEGUARD, AND THE LIFEGUARD STORE, UTILIZING
THE COMPETITIVELY BID BREVARD COUNTY CONTRACT B-6-15-44, EFFECTIVE
THROUGH MARCH 26, 2017; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF
PARKS AND RECREATION, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS AND
BUDGETARY APPROVAL AT TIME OF NEED.
WHEREAS, the City Manager approved accessing the Brevard County Contract B-6-15-
44 up to $50,000.00 on June 26, 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation ("Parks") has a need for the
procurement of additional lifeguard equipment and aquatic center supplies; and
WHEREAS, an increase in usage at City of Miami ("City") aquatic centers has created a
demand to increase and fully stock the facilities with safety equipment necessary to operate and
provide pool recreation services;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. An increase to the authorized' expenditure limits in an amount not to exceed
$25,000.00, for a total amount not to exceed $75,000.00, for the purchase of lifeguard
equipment and aquatic center supplies from Water Safety products, E-Lifeguard, and The
Lifeguard Store, utilizing the competitively bid Brevard County Contract B-6-15-44, effective
through March 26, 2017, is approved.
Section 3. Funds are to be allocated from the Department of Parks and Recreation,
subject to the availability of funds and budgetary approval at time of need.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2
1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
