City of Miami Legislation Resolution Enactment Number: R-17-0070 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 1585 Final Action Date:2/9/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT 5 SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ("CITY") ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE PROGRAM, IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $10,000.00, TO THE MIAMI ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT COUNCIL FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CITY RESIDENTS AND FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT OF LOCAL ARTISTS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative to address poverty based on principles outlined in the Gateway to Self -Sufficiency Strategy which focuses on providing support to the City's residents in achieving self-sufficiency; and WHEREAS, Miami Arts and Entertainment Council ("MAEC"), a City Board, will provide scholarships for City residents in high school or college programs, and provide resources to City artists and organizations that impart financial empowerment and skills marketable for employment ("Program"); and WHEREAS, the Program furthers the Anti -Poverty Initiative within the City and exemplifies the principles outlined in the Gateway to Self -Sufficiency strategy; and WHEREAS, the District 5 Commissioner desires to assist employment and financial success to City artists and organizations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of grant funds from the District 5 share of the City's Anti - Poverty Initiative, in an amount not to exceed $10,000.00, to the MAEC for the Program, is authorized. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.' 1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS:
