HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-17-0069City of Miami Resolution R-17-0069 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 1584 Final Action Date: 2/9/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL STEPS NECESSARY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NEGOTIATING AND EXECUTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S CURRENT INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, TO ALLOW FOR THE MODIFICATION OF THE EXISTING COCONUT GROVE TROLLEY ROUTE, TO PROVIDE SERVICE TO THE AREAS OF NORTH COCONUT GROVE, SHOPS OF MERRICK PLACE, AND THE CORAL GABLES AREA JUST WEST OF US 1, INCLUDING THE COCONUT GROVE METRORAIL STATION VIA SOUTHWEST 27TH AVENUE, DEVIATING FROM SOUTHWEST 37TH AVENUE NORTHBOUND FROM GRAND AVENUE TO PEACOCK AVENUE, AND MCDONALD STREET SOUTHBOUND FROM BIRD AVENUE TO OAK AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, THUS INCREASING THE CURRENT ROUTE ALIGNMENT FROM 7.79 MILES TO 10.74 MILES, WITH POSSIBLE FUTURE MODIFICATIONS TO THE OPERATING HOURS AND/OR HEADWAYS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") operates a municipal trolley system providing residents, visitors and commuters with a mode of public transportation that improves mobility and enhances connectivity to existing local and regional transit facilities; and WHEREAS, the City's trolley system currently services ten (10) interconnected routes that includes the Coconut Grove Trolley Route; and WHEREAS, the City, through feedback received from a public meeting held pursuant to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 on April 20, 2016, desires to modify the Coconut Grove Trolley Route to service the areas of North Coconut Grove, Shops of Merrick Place, and the Coral Gables area just west of US 1, including the Coconut Grove Metrorail Station via Southwest 27th Avenue, deviating from Southwest 37th Avenue northbound from Grand Avenue to Peacock Avenue, and McDonald Street southbound from Bird Avenue to Oak Avenue, Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, the modification of the route will increase the current route alignment from 7.79 miles to 10.74 miles with possible future modifications to the operating hours and/or headways; and WHEREAS, the modification of the Coconut Grove Trolley Route will allow seamless connectivity to the Douglas Road and Coconut Grove Metrorail Stations, as well as connectivity with the City's Brickell Trolley, and will further facilitate commuter movement throughout the City by also connecting with the Coral Gables Trolley and several Miami -Dade Transit routes at both Metrorail Stations; and City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 1584 (Revision:) Printed On: 3/20/2025 File ID: 1584 Enactment Number: R-17-0069 WHEREAS, the modification of the Coconut Grove Trolley Route will not increase operational costs or capital costs, as travel frequencies and speeds will be adjusted to accommodate the modification of the route by utilizing the trolleys currently in circulation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized' to take all steps necessary, including but not limited to, negotiating and executing an amendment to the City's current Interlocal Agreement with Miami -Dade County, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to allow the modification of the existing Coconut Grove Trolley Route to provide service to the areas of North Coconut Grove, Shops of Merrick Place, and the Coral Gables area just west of US 1, including the Coconut Grove Metrorail Station via Southwest 27th Avenue,deviating from Southwest 37th Avenue northbound from Grand Avenue to Peacock Avenue, and McDonald Street southbound from Bird Avenue to Oak Avenue, Miami, Florida, thus increasing the current route alignment from 7.79 miles to 10.74 miles, with possible future modifications to the operating hours and/or headways. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ndez, City Attor ey 1/27/2017 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
