A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI COMMISSION APPOINTING FRANCIS SUAREZ,
SUBJECT TO MEETING THE QUALIFICATIONS OF THE OFFICE, AS THE DISTRICT
4 COMMISSIONER FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI, TO FILL THE VACANCY CREATED
BY THE RESIGNATION EFFECTIVE JUNE 22, 2017, TO SERVE UNTIL SUCH TIME
AS THE RESULTS HAVE BEEN DECLARED AND CERTIFIED FOR AN ELECTION
TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 7, 2017.
WHEREAS, Commissioner Francis Suarez, effective June 22, 2017, in accordance with
Section 99.012 Florida Statutes, tendered his resignation as a City Commissioner for the City of
Miami, Florida, in order to seek the office of Mayor of the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Commission of the City of Miami, Florida, to fill such
vacancy, by appointment, subject to meeting the qualifications of the office, pursuant to City
Charter provisions relative to same;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Commissioner Francis Suarez, subject to meeting the qualifications of the
office, as the District 4 Commissioner for the City of Miami, is appointed to fill the vacancy
created by the resignation effective June 22, 2017, to serve until such time as the results have
been declared and certified for the election to be held on November 7, 2017.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.1

1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
