Re: Please Fund City's Public Riverwalk in Proposed GOB
Dear City of Miami Commissioners:
I commend the City of Miami for the July 29 City Commission agenda
item RE.3, which proposes a new General Obligation Bond. The City
of Miami's Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan, Miami River
Greenway Action Plan (adopted in 2001), and the City of Miami's
adopted Parks Master Plan, all require completion of the 60%
constructed public Miami River Greenway. The 1st draft proposed
new GOB projects list includes $11,000,000 for "Community Trails
and Bikeways", but surprisingly this category excludes any of the
funding still needed for the City to construct the public Riverwalk on
City owned sections of the Miami River Greenway. Therefore I
respectfully recommend the City of Miami include significant funding
in the proposed new bond issue towards finishing construction of the
remaining City owned sections of the public Miami River Greenway.
Your time and continued strong support for the Miami River District
and the public Riverwalk are appreciated.
Sincerely,
Horacio Stuart Aguirre
Chairman,
Miami River Commission
