Borges Secretary Elisa de Velasco Vice Secretary Albert Collazo Rafael Villaverde Founder June 1, 2016 The Honorable Ken Russell Vice Chairman, City of Miami 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 Dear Vice Chairman Russell: Submitted into the public UA. tkecord f Ott —v_ City Clerk On behalf of Little Havana Activities & Nutrition Centers of Dade County, Inc. ("Little Havana"), I amwriting to inform you that on July 1, 2016, we will be closing our congregate meal sites at the following locations: Casa Devon Palermo Lakes Palm Towers Stella Maris UTD Towers Of these sites, UTD Towers is located within a residential building in your district. These centers each provide an average of only 40 meals per day. This is because they either do not have the capacity to serve a greater number of clients or because there is lack of interest from residents to register for meals in the centers. Upon reviewing the number of meals being provided at each of its centers, and as a result of the devastating loss of $500,000 from the State of Florida Local Service Provider program, Little Havana determined that the best course of action was to close those centers that are not self-sufficient and are draining funds from Little Havana's other programs. Although we usually reduce meals proportionately amongst all of our centers in instances of funding reductions such as those we just faced from the State of Florida Local Service Provider program, the centers listed above were not self- sufficient even prior to these recent cuts. In fact, this has been the case for the entirety of the time that Little Havana has been providing services at these centers. Regardless of that fact, Little Havana subsidized these locations for years, using unrestricted funds obtained through other funding sources. Unfortunately, the programs from which we obtained these unrestricted founds have also suffered funding decreases and rate reductions, and we can no longer afford to subsidize these locations. Rest assured that we have not taken this decision lightly. We continue to vigorously search for additional funding for our services in order to ensure that senior centers operate in a manner that allows them to be self-sufficient, while at the same time allowing Little Havana to provide other quality service to those individuals with the greatest need. Very truly ours, 44.4 Ramon Perez-I3orrbecker President and CEO )%\Y1}10f. `\\ooUnited Way Member Agency II Ak c6L— Sv a - 6om, ss\ ow-ef1ly ) ))e,\\, - e - b .avtuvn)\(,vl\)es i,
