I am writing to you at the request of William Talbert, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau. There is a City of Miami Commission Meeting scheduled on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Mr. Talbert is requesting time on this agenda to make a presentation on the State of the Travel and Tourism Industry. Mr. Talbert does this every year during National Travel and Tourism Week/Month. All he needs is 15 minutes on the agenda. During Mr. Talbert's presentation, he will present a plaque to thank the City of Miami for its support. In turn, the City of Miami gives us a proclamation stating that. May is National Tourism Month. To help in drafting the proclamation, below are some facts. 2015 Miami's #1 Industry Travel & Tourism Fast Facts: • Record 136,100 jobs in the Travel & Tourism Industry • Record 15.5 million overnight visitors to Greater Miami and the Beaches contributed to local businesses and jobs • Record $24.4 billion was spent by visitors on lodging, food, shopping, transportation and entertainment • Record $218.0 million in tourist -related taxes was generated by visitors • 30% of state sales taxes collected in Greater Miami and the Beaches were generated by visitors • Greater Miami and the Beaches ranked #4 in hotel room rate and revenue per available room; and # 6 in occupancy among the top 25 U.S. Hotel Markets Let me know how to proceed with this request.
