regard a Tree Symposium is currently being planned for

focus of this Symposium will be trees in the urban

practices. One of the purposes of the Symposium will
also be to disseminate a proposed "model" ordinance for

Re: Morningside
Dear Elvis:
Civic
Association
I want to thank you again for the presentation you
made at the February 28, 1992 meeting of the City of
Miami Committee on Beautification and Environment. The
work your group has performed in the Morningside area is
an inspiration to others, and I commend you for the
leadership role you have taken in accomplishing same. It
was both a pleasure and a privilege to recognize you and
your group at the meeting.
I hope that you will consider taking an active role
in our Committee as we are in need of more people who are
dedicated to improving our community and that have
insight on how to do so. If you have the interest and
time to do this, please contact me as I would welcome
your ongoing participation.

Subject: Palms

Three mature palms stood in the small circular median in the front of my home at 600
NE 56th. I witnessed two struck and knocked down by vehicles.
y
The first was the more mature of the three and closest to my home. A pick-up truck
from the city maintenance crew cut the corner too short and hit the palm with the trailer
carrying the lawn mower and tools. The trailer went over the median and hit the tree.
The driver looked out of the window to see the damage to the palm tree and kept going
(I am assuming elsewhere or out of the neighborhood). This was about 4 years ago.
That palm did not fall immediately. It was leaning & fell during a heavy rainstorm. The
city cut it up and hauled it away. It was not replaced.
The second palm was the smallest. As I shared prior, a woman, whom I assume was a
worker or housekeeper from my new neighbor's home, lost control of her car and drove
up the tree. Her car was front wheel drive so she could not back up. This tree was
leaning sideways and then fell to the ground. We (I and another neighbor) made sure
the woman was not injured. My neighbor use his truck to pull her vehicle off of the tree.
That palm tree fell that day. The city cut it up and hauled it off a few days later. No
trees were ever replaced. This happened less than one year ago.
