(NSCFF) is an IRS designated, 501(c)(3) not -for -profit organization, established to improve healthcare delivery and address the unmet needs of patients afflicted with neurological diseases; namely, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Stroke. Our organization's comprehensive team approach to care is uniquely poised to answer to a patient's medical and non -medical issues. As a comprehensive care organization, NSCFF aims to provide diagnosis, treatment, disease management, support services, and education to patients, their loved ones and caregivers to keep patients at home, at work, and out of the hospital. Under the umbrella of Neurology, NSCFF's affiliate, the Miami -Dade Stroke Consortium (MDSC) was established in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) non- profit corporation to improve stroke care and outcomes in Miami -Dade County. The Consortium has established an innovative approach to stroke data collection for the estimated 4,000 strokes that occur per year in the County. Working under the auspices of the Fire Officer's Association of Miami - Dade County (FOAM-D), agreements with 14 Primary and Comprehensive Stroke Center Hospitals in Miami -Dade County have been executed to include participation in MDSC's network. MDSC's design for data collection standardizes pre -hospital and in - hospital data among the 6 Fire Rescue departments and 14 hospitals. Pre -hospital data is collected using an electronic Stroke Tool installed on all emergency vehicles while in -hospital data is collected electronically using the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines -Stroke Patient Management Tool. Both pre -hospital and in -hospital data sources are then collated into NIH's REDCap system. REDCap is a secure, web - based application, designed to support data capture for research studies. Learning patterns of movement develops focus, concentration, and memory. Call us to enroll! Classes begin January 12, 2016 at 1:30pm. (every other Tuesday) Adaptive Yoga Yoga is an excellent form of exercise for people with MS because it involves stretching exercises for the whole body. (every other Tuesday) Support Group The NSCFF Circle is a unique opportunity for those with Multiple Sclerosis to partake in monthly meetings for sharing, venting, and supporting one another. Meetings led by our MS Social Worker, Oylime Fernandez, are held on the last Tuesday of every month at NSCFF at 6:00 PM. In this circle you are guaranteed honesty, empathy, support, understanding, and knowledge to help you forge ahead in your life's journey with MS. Art Therapy Art is one way that you can deal with stress, anger, depression, and isolation. Research in the field confirms that the creative process involved in artistic self- expression helps people to become more physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy and functional, resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, handle life adjustments, and achieve insight. Hippotherapy Horseback riding as a therapy for those with MS has been found to offer benefits for those with walking difficulties, weakness, spasticity, bowel and bladder issues, and depression. Call us to find a Hippotherapy class near you! Aquatic Therapy The unique qualities of water provide exceptional benefits to people with MS. Water helps people with MS move in ways they may not be able to on land. The pool at A.D. Barnes Park is equipped with aquatic wheelchairs, ramps for entering, and an aquatic chair lift. Classes are taught by a trained professional and cost $3.00. Mindfulness Mindfulness -based stress reduction will teach students to pay attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non -judgmentally, to deal with stress, fatigue, anxiety, chronic pain and depression. People with MS will be encouraged to remain active, allow for more socialization, by providing a fun recreational activity and aid in coping with depression or isolation.
