A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ACCEPTING THE
RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE MIAMI SEA LEVEL RISE COMMITTEE TO HAVE
CITY OF MIAMI DEPARTMENT LIAISONS MEET WITH LOCAL UNIVERSITY
LEADERSHIP TO FORM PARTNERSHIPS TO ADDRESS, INTER ALIA, LAND USE,
MAPPING, AND BUILDING CODE ISSUES; TO INCREASE PAID COLLEGE
INTERNSHIPS FOCUSED ON SEA LEVEL RISE AND CLIMATE CHANGE; AND TO
JOIN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO PARTNER WITH
METROLAB NETWORK TO FORM REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN CITIES
AND UNIVERSITIES.
WHEREAS, the Sea Level Rise Committee ("Committee") seeks to build a more resilient and
adaptive City of Miami ("City"); and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida is most vulnerable to the impacts of flooding and sea level
rise; and
WHEREAS, it is important to enhance and expand the mapping of the City to identify what
areas of the City will experience the greatest impact of flooding or sea level rise; and
WHEREAS, providing paid college internships focused on sea level rise and climate change
provides an opportunity to build the City's future workforce to address and solve these issues; and
WHEREAS, academic and research institutions locally and nationally are researching,
studying, and analyzing major issues relating to climate change and sea lever rise;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission ("City Commission") accepts the recommendation of
the Committee to have City Department liaisons meet with local university leadership to form
partnerships to address, inter alia, land use, mapping, and building code issues.
Section 3. The City Commission further accepts the Committee's recommendation to increase
paid college internships that focus on sea level rise and climate change.
Section 4. The City Commission further accepts the Committee's recommendation to join
Miami -Dade County and the City of Miami Beach in partnering with Metrolab Network to form regional
partnerships between cities and universities.

Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.{1}
Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10)
calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
