Gordon Scholarship Fund, where the City of Miami will be receiving $10,000.00 and recurring varying revenue in the future from the Miami Firefighters Benevolent Association ("MFFBA") donated by the Estate of Dr. Michael S. Gordon, for the purpose of funding scholarships used to pay educational expenses for at -risk youth selected as participants from graduates of the City of Miami 5000 Role Models EMS Cadet Program, This Resolution will authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents for the acceptance of said donation. Director City ManagEr Page 1 of 1 Background Information The City Manager recommends adoption of this Resolution which will allow the creation for the Fire -Rescue Department a New Special Revenue Project Entitled: "The Michael S. Gordon Scholarship Fund. The Michael S. Gordon Scholarship Fund is a scholarship that provides an award of financial aid for selected graduates of the 5000 Role Models EMS Cadet Program to be used to pay for educational expenses for courses required for paramedic licensure. Paramedics are advanced providers of emergency medical care and are highly educated in topics such as anatomy and physiology, cardiology, medications, and medical procedures. The 5000 Role Models EMS Cadet Program is an exciting endeavor collaborated by the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project, Inc., the City of Miami Department of Fire -Rescue, Miami -Dade Public Schools and Miami -Dade College. The 5000 Role Models EMS Cadet Program provides Miami -Dade County at -risk youth between the ages of 18 to 25 years old, which lack access to educational and employment opportunities due to socio-economic conditions the opportunity to participate in emergency responder training to acquire certification as an emergency medical technician, as well as, acquire credits towards a college degree to increase their future employability and success in the emergency responder field. The Miami Firefighters Benevolent Association ("MFFBA"), is a non-profit organization, whose membership is comprised of present and retired City of Miami Firefighters that involves itself with community and sometimes national issues. The MFFBA receives donations into a 501 C 3 charity fund, which are re -distributed in their entirety back to those in the community that are in need. Michael S. Gordon, M.D., Ph.D., is a philanthropist and the founder and director of the Michael S. Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education. The City Manager recommends adoption of this Resolution which will allow the City of Miami to accept this donation from the Miami Firefighters Benevolent Association ("MFFBA") donated by the Estate of Dr. Michael S. Gordon.
