HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-16-0291City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-16-0291 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 16-00857 Final Action Date: 6/23/2016 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ALLOCATING FUNDS FOR PROJECT NO. 40-B70184, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $950,000.00, FROM GENERAL FUND TRANSFERS AND FIRE IMPACT FEES, FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE -RESCUE' S COMPREHENSIVE CANCER PREVENTION PROGRAM: AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, during the City Commission Meeting of June 9, 2016, the Fire Chief and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 587 President made a presentation to the Commission regarding the Department of Fire -Rescue's ("Department") plan for a Comprehensive Cancer Prevention Program ("Program"); and WHEREAS, the Fire Chief outlined that the Department's goal was to initiate a Program where the Department would evaluate the risk factors for cancer in the fire service and then develop a plan to deal with these risks; and WHEREAS, the objectives of the developed plan are to assess the personal protective equipment; to implement environmental protection systems (exhaust removal); to implement early cancer prevention and protection (diagnostic), and to develop awareness/education for the firefighters; and WHEREAS, funding in the amount not to exceed $950,000.00 is needed in order to accomplish the remaining ongoing initiatives for the new Project No. 40-B70184; and WHEREAS, the allocation of funds for said program will be available from a combination of transfers from the General Fund and from Fire Impact Fees to be separately appropriated by future budgetary amendments; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of funds for Project No. 40-B70184, in an amount not to exceed $950,000.00, from a combination of transfers from the General Fund and from Fire Impact Fees, for the Department's Program, is authorized. {1} Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
