Subject: Robbery Intervention Detail Task Force Mutual Aid Agreement with Miami -Dade County
Purpose of Item:
A Resolution of the Miami City Commission, with attachment(s), authorizing the City Manager to
execute a Mutual Aid Agreement, in substantially the attached form, between the City of Miami
("City") and Miami -Dade County ("County"), to receive and extend mutual aid in the form of robbery
intervention investigations with the County's Robbery Intervention Detail Task Force, to apprehend
and prosecute criminals engaging in violent crime of robbery that cross jurisdictional boundaries as
defined in Part 1, Chapter 23, of the Florida Statutes.
Background Information:
Miami -Dade County and the City of Miami have the authority under Section 23.12, Florida Statutes, et.
seq., the Florida Mutual Aid Act, to enter into a Mutual Aid Agreement. The purpose of this Mutual Aid
Agreement is to allow the City of Miami to assist the County with its Robbery Intervention Detail Task
Force, which was created to investigate, apprehend, and prosecute those people who are engaging in
the violent crime of robbery, and other violent crimes, outside of the jurisdictional boundaries of the City
of Miami as both parties recognize that criminals do not operate with regard to jurisdictional boundaries.
Although the City of Miami entered into a generalized/standard mutual aid agreement with Miami -Dade
County, as authorized by Resolution No. 10-0002 on January 14, 2010; this mutual aid agreement is
specifically for the Miami Police Department's participation on the Robbery Intervention Detail Task
Force.
