Director City Mana Page 1 of 1 In 1998, the State of Florida funded an initiative to help communities develop local mitigation strategies to mitigate effects of natural disasters and to identify sources of funds to address those needs. The Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution No. R-362-98 which approved the execution of a Hazards Mitigation Strategy Agreement between the State. This action allowed the County, through the Office of Emergency Management ("OEM"), to establish a working group to oversee the development of the LMS, The LMS working group includes county departments, municipalities, state and federal agencies, and various private entities. Federal and State regulations require that the LMS be approved and adopted every five (5) years. Since 2000, the Board of County Commissioners has adopted the LMS as required in the regulations. Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA"), which provides the majority of mitigation funding, and the State of Florida require that projects be listed in Miami -Dade County's LMS in order to be eligible and considered for funding under a variety of mitigation programs. The County's adoption of the LMS Resolution is a requirement to apply for FEMA funds for the projects included within the plan. The City Commission is required to adopt Miami -Dade County's Resolution No, R-683-15, adopted September 1st, 2015, in order, to apply for, receive, expend and sub -award, grant funds under various mitigation grant funding projects. The City of Miami has 78 Projects in the plan.
