City Manager If using or receiving capital funds Grants Purchasing Chief 746/ Page 1 of 1 AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED Background Information: Pursuant to Resolution No. 15-0142, adopted March 26, 2015, the Miami City Commission approved the allocation of CDBG funds of program year 2015-2016, HUD entitlement grants funds in the amount of $135,217 in the Public Service category which included an amount of $14,868 for Coconut Grove Cares, Inc. Coconut Grove Cares, Inc. was to use these funds to assist activities of the START Program Inc. The START program provides mentoring and other activities to keep youngsters off the streets. The staff is composed of educators from the school system and they are attempting to have a program that allows young people to develop different life skills and preparation for the future. It is the desire of the START Program to handle the management of these funds themselves. The agency has until March 31 st , 2016 to use the funds. The Administration has evaluated the capacity of the START Program, Inc. to manage the funds and recommends the transfer of the amount of $14,868 in CDBG funds originally allocated to Coconut Grove Cares, Inc., to The START Program, Inc.
