WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission thanks President Obama, and the Administration, for their tireless efforts to reach a diplomatic agreement with Iran on its nuclear program; and WHEREAS, the City Commission believes diplomacy is the most effective avenue for solving problems on the international stage and that it is important that the United States Congress have sixty (60) days to review the Iranian agreement as laid out in legislation passed this spring; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has some concerns about the announced deal because the proposed deal does not ensure "anytime, anywhere" short -notice inspections; and WHEREAS, the proposed deal does not clearly condition sanctions relief on full Iranian cooperation in satisfying International Atomic Energy Agency concerns over the possible military dimensions of Tehran's program; and WHEREAS, the proposed deal lifts sanctions as soon as the agreement commences, rather than gradually as Iran demonstrates sustained adherence to the agreement; and WHEREAS, the proposed deal lifts key restrictions in as few as eight (8) years; and WHEREAS, the proposed deal would disconnect and store centrifuges in an easily reversible manner, but it requires no dismantlement of centrifuges or any Iranian nuclear facility; and WHEREAS, the City Commission takes the Administration at his word that "no deal is better than a bad deal"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
