HomeMy WebLinkAboutSubmittal-Commissioner Suarez-Pet Shop Moratorium Reinspection ReportCITY OF MIAMI OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners FROM: Zerry Ihekwaba, Assistant City Manager DATE: June 24, 2015 RE: Pet Shop Moratorium — Reinspection Report On September 29, 2014, the City Commission imposed a six -months moratorium on the issuance of licenses or approvals for new pet shop facilities dealing with the sale of dogs/cats, and tasked the Office of Code Compliance with conducting a study regarding the citywide retail sale of dogs and/or cats produced at substandard breeding facilities, in order to assist in drafting appropriate regulations. The study consisted of specific pet shop Locations and a report was submitted to your office on March 12th 2015. As part of its routine compliance inspections, staff conducted reinspections of the facilities on June 23, 2015, in order to ascertain their current status and provide an update. Below are the highlights of the reinspection as provided by Office of Code Compliance: 1.) 7335 SW 8 Street — Puppies to Go Business was inspected and found to have an active Certificate of Use (CU) for General Commercial (Pet Store/Animal Hospital), and a Business Tax Receipt (BTR) for merchant's retail, pet grooming, veterinary kennel or hospital, as well as one veterinarian on site. A total of 17 Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI's) and Record of Disposition of Dogs and Cats were provided confirming their proper status,as previously determined. 2.) 7371 SW 8 Street — Showtime Pet Club Boutique At time of inspection the business was closed. A visual observation indicated that no dogs were stored or displayed inside the business. 3.) 7193 SW 8 Street — The Puppv House, Inc. Location was inspected and this business is no longer active or operational. A new entity called Fashion Boutique Clothing Store is the current business at the location. 4.) 5827 SW 8. Street — Yorkie Love,Inc. Business was inspected and found to have an active CU for General Commercial (Pet Store/Animal Hospital), and a BTR for merchant's retail and pet grooming. At time of inspection there were no dogs on display for sale. 6.) 3672 SW 22 Street — Forever Teacup Business was inspected and found to have an active CU for General Commercial (Pet Store/Animal Hospital), and an active BTR for merchant's retail and grooming. At time of inspection there were no dogs on display for sale. 7.) 1548 SW 27 Avenue — Puppy World Business was inspected and found to have an active CU for pet grooming (NO PET SALES), and an active BTR for merchant's retail and grooming. At time of inspection there were no dogs on display for sale. This business was previously closed by the City for not having a CU or BTR. All licenses are now active. 8.) 2179 SW 1 Street — Home Grown Puppies, Inc. Location was inspected and the pet shop business is no longer operating there but a new entity, Rapid Taxes is the occupant of the store. 9.) 2915 NW 27 Avenue, TLC Doe Care, LLC. Location was inspected and the pet shop business is now closed. 10.) 3333 NW 17 Avenue — Chihuahua World Pet Shop Location was inspected and the pet shop business is no longer operating there but a new entity, La Ceniza Mini Mart is the occupant of the store. 11.) 1891 NW 21 Street — Amado Pet Shop Business was inspected and found to have an active CU for General Commercial, and a BTR for merchant's retail. Other types of animals other than dogs and cats were found on display for sale. 12.) 3251 NW 7 Street — Beverly Hill Puppies Business was inspected and found to have an active CU for General Commercial, and a BTR for merchant's retail as well as an active USDA permit. There were four puppies for sale at time of inspection, and all four had their CVI's on site. 13.) 888 NW 27 Avenue — Puppy Paradise Location was inspected and the pet shop business is no longer there.
