HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislation SUBCity of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-15-0280 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 15-00861 Final Action Date:6/25/2015 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CONDEMNING ANY AND ALL RACIALLY, CULTURALLY OR NATIONAL ORIGIN INSENSITIVE STATEMENTS MADE BY ANYONE WHO IS RUNNING FOR OFFICE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA INCLUDING THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO MR. DONALD TRUMP. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has one of the highest proportions of foreign -born residents of any major city worldwide therefore, race, ethnicity, and culture are concepts of extreme relevance in the City; and WHEREAS, persons running for any office must promote and encourage respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, culture, and national origin; and WHEREAS, the City condemns any racially, culturally or national origin insensitive statements made by candidates running for office, especially any such statements made by anyone running for Office of the President of the United States of America; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission specifically condemns any and all racially, culturally or national origin insensitive statements made by anyone who is running for office. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Donald Trump. Section 4.
