A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION WAIVING THE PROHIBITIONS
IN SECTION 2-11.1 OF THE CODE OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, AND APPROVING
ACCEPTANCE OF THE PAYMENT OF CERTAIN TRAVEL EXPENSES BY TURKIC
AMERICAN FEDERATION OF SOUTHEAST, FOR A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
MISSION TO TURKEY, WHICH MISSION IS FOR THE USE AND BENEFIT OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY"); AUTHORIZING COMMISSIONER KEON HARDEMON TO
REPRESENT THE CITY IN THIS ENDEAVOR; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE MIAMI-DADE COMMISSION
ON ETHICS.
WHEREAS, the Turkic American Federation of Southeast (TAFS), an organization committed to
advancing the interaction among American and Turkic people, is sponsoring this development mission
("Mission") which will lead to the establishment of increased ties between Turkey and the City of
Miami ("City"); and
WHEREAS, the Mission is found to serve a clear public purpose that benefits the City; and
WHEREAS, TAFS has offered to provide payment of certain travel expenses for the participation
of Commissioner Keon Hardemon to attend its Mission to Turkey; and
WHEREAS, Section 2-11.1(w) of the Code of Miami -Dade County, Florida, as amended, prohibits
the acceptance of travel expenses from anyone who is a contractor of the City unless a majority of
the Miami City Commission waives the prohibition; and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission believes it in the best interest of the City for
Commissioner Hardemon to represent the City on this Mission; and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission wishes to waive the prohibition and accept payment of
certain travel expenses by TAFS;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby waives the prohibitions in Section 2-11.1 of the
Code of Miami -Dade County and approves acceptance of the payment of travel expenses by TAFS
for its Mission to Turkey, which Mission is for the use and benefit of the City.
Section 3. Commissioner Keon Hardemon is authorized to represent the City in this business
endeavor.

Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Miami -Dade
Commission on Ethics.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor. {1 }
Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10)
calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
