A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY TO PLACE A BIKE LANE ON THE SOUTHEASTERN SIDE OF MAIN
HIGHWAY, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE STORMWATER
DRAINAGE PROJECT SET TO COMMENCE IN JULY, 2015 AS PART OF THE
ROADWAY RESTORATION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMITA
COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS STATED HEREIN.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") and Miami -Dade County have been consistently ranked
by bicycle magazines and journals as one of the worst and most dangerous areas for cyclists; and
WHEREAS, on October 8, 2009 the City adopted the City Bicycle Master Plan to make the City
more bicycle -friendly through the development of an interconnected bicycle -friendly network plan and
implementation strategies; and
WHEREAS, the City is dedicated to promoting greener modes of transportation and creating
safer passageways for cyclists to exercise and travel; and
WHEREAS, a bike in the center of the business sector of Coconut Grove will create a safer
passage through a busy intersection and link the existing Commodore Trail on Main Highway to
McFarlane Road, Miami, Florida; and
WHEREAS, the proposed bike lane, which would be placed on the southeastern side of Main
Highway and would result in the elimination of the middle lane which traffic studies have shown is often
used and has been a request of the District Commissioner and of District constituents since 2010;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA;
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2, The City urges Miami -Dade County to place a bike lane on the southeastern side of
Main Highway, Miami, Florida after the conclusion of the Storm Water Drainage Project set to
commence in July, 2015, as part of the roadway restoration.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Mayor Carlos
Gimenez and to the Miami -Dade County Board of County Commissioners,

Section 4, This Resolution shall become effective upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.

{1} This Resolution shall become effective as specified herein unless vetoed by the Mayor within ten
(10) days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission or upon the effective
date stated herein, whichever is later.
