HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislation 04.23.15City of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 15-00508 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL STEPS NECESSARY, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ("CITY'S") CURRENT INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, TO ADD A SOUTHWEST 8TH STREET/SOUTHWEST 6TH STREET TROLLEY ROUTE TO THE CITY'S TROLLEY SYSTEM IN EAST LITTLE HAVANA, ENCOMPASSING FROM SOUTHWEST 8TH STREET, TO SOUTHWEST 1ST COURT, TO SOUTHWEST 7TH STREET, TO SOUTHWEST 3RD AVENUE, TO SOUTHWEST 6TH STREET, TO BEACOM BOULEVARD, MIAMI, FLORIDA AND BACK. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") currently operates a multitude of trolleys in the Health District, Overtown, Downtown, Brickell, and Coral Way areas; and WHEREAS, the trolleys are used by tourists and locals alike; and WHEREAS, Southwest 8th Street in East Little Havana, Miami, Florida ("East Little Havana"), is a burgeoning tourist destination for those who visit the City; and WHEREAS, Southwest 8th Street in East Little Havana is an important area for those who live, work and visit the area; and WHEREAS, there is a large community that has been historically underserved by transit in East Little Havana; and WHEREAS, a trolley route in that location would greatly enhance the neighborhood; and WHEREAS, if the implementation of the additional route were to take place immediately, the current Interlocal Agreement contains a provision that would allow the City to rent vehicles from the provider at a cost of $45 per hour, thus bringing the total cost to approximately $415,000, for the first year, with future costs at approximately $288,500 per year which includes two (2) vehicles operating at 13 hours a day, 6 days a week; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is directed to take all steps necessary, including, but not limited to, an amendment to the City's current Interlocal Agreement with Miami -Dade County, to add a Southwest 8th Street/Southwest 6th Street trolley route to the City's trolley system in East Little Havana encompassing from Southwest 8th Street, to Southwest 1st Court, to Southwest 7th Street to Southwest 3rd Avenue, to Southwest 6th Street, to Beacom Boulevard, Miami, Florida and back . If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
