Director City Manager Attachment Page 1 of 2 N/A N/A Background Information: Pursuant to Resolution No. 14-0427, adopted November 20, 2014, the City Commission accepted a grant award from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, in the amount of $605,394, to be dispersed over a period of three (3) years, to fund technology acquisition, training, personnel and other associated costs, which includes the hiring of an experienced statistical analyst, who is capable of building and interpreting predictive crime models and a research assistant. The Florida International University, Department of Criminal Justice, within the School of International & Public Affairs is in partnership with the City's police department and has identified an associate professor who is qualified in building and interpreting predictive crime models. Pursuant to Section 18-112 of the Code, the City Administration recommends the allocation of grant funds in an amount not to exceed $120,789.13, from the BJA 13 Smart Policing Initiative award, to Florida International University for the services of an experienced statistical analyst who is capable of building interpreting predictive models, as well as a researcher who will conduct evaluations of data.
