A Florida Licensed Realtor for 10 years (FL. Real Estate License # 0694443), my
business partner and wife Sylvia Cherry and I have been the number one, or
among the top three Realtors, for Coconut Grove during this period and named
among the top 100 Realtors in the State of Florida licensed with Coldwell Banker.
From 2005 through 2009, I served as an elected Councilman for Coconut Grove
and Chairman of that body for 2006. In the capacity as Chairman, I was
instrumental in keeping the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Estate on Stewart Avenue
in the Grove through direct liaison with the Governor's office and conducted
public hearings on the issue. I was Chairman of the Council's Post Office
Committee and sought relief from the US Postal Service for the damages the
Grove incurred with its arbitrary cutting of time-honored trees on its property.
The Council was the first to hold hearings on the dismantling of the Coconut
Grove Playhouse and I was one of three members on a special committee to hold
public hearings. Prior to becoming a Councilman, for five years I was Chairman
for Membership Development and Communications for the North Grove
Neighbors Association.
I received a BS from Miami University in Ohio. After serving as a Viet Nam era
Naval Officer for almost four years, I completed my Masters work at Indiana
University in Journalism and went on to a Madison Avenue advertising career and
President of a communications company bearing my name before becoming a
Realtor.

RE: Position on Historical & Environmental
Preservation Board
c'1
Attached is my application for a position on the abo-
referenced board. As you may be aware from my prior service on the PAB and PZAB, I
believe strongly in public service. Additionally, I believe that my work experience a-sa' ';
lawyer, real estate sales associate, former banker, and native Miamian are adequate_
qualifications for a board seat. Lastly, I feel that instead of complaining about changes, c
it's more important to become involved and understand why these changes occur
hopefully, for the good of the city.
I appreciate your consideration.
Thank you,
Michael Schiff
