Hannon City Clerk Date: February 27, 2015 Subject: Commission on the Status of Women Reference: Agenda for March 12, 2015 Enclosures: List of members The Commission on the Status of Women was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the City Commission, including advising on any possible barrier which may impede the participation of women in City sponsored programs and activities; to work toward legislation granting women equality before the law; to inspire in women the desire for self-improvement and pride of being, regardless of age, marital status, race, color or creed; to seek for every woman the opportunities equal to her potential and responsibility; to seek opportunities for and to encourage the active involvement of women in matters pertaining to community progress; to encourage capable women in roles of leadership. Eleven (11) appointments are needed at this time. • Mayor Tomas Regalado has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by: 1. Allyson Warren, incumbent, whose term expires on March 13, 2015, has served as a member since July 14, 1998, and she would require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5) vote of the Commission. • Chair Wifredo (Willy) Gort has two (2) nominations for seats currently:* 1. Vacant. (Isel Fuentes resigned effective June 10, 2014) 2. Vacant. (Magaly Van Gelder resigned effective June 3, 2014) • Vice Chair Keon Hardemon has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by: 1. Samaiyah Engram, incumbent, whose term expires on April 10, 2015, has exceeded the number of allowed absences (5 in 2014), and will require a 4/5ths waiver of attendance.t 2. Constance Gilbert, incumbent, whose term expires on March 13, 2015, has exceed the number of allowed consecutive absences (3 in 2014), and will require a 4/5ths waiver of attendance.1 * This item was continued from July 10, 2014, September 11, 2014, October 9, 2014, November 20, 2014, December 11, 2014, January 8, 2015, and February 12, 2015, Commission meetings. Maria Mascarenas, incumbent, whose term expired on April 12, 2013, has exceeded the number of allowed consecutive absences (6 in 2014 and 4 in 2013), and the number of allowed absences (8 in 2014 and 5 in 2013), and would require a 4/5ths waiver of attendance; further as she has served as a member since January 13, 2005, she would require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5) vote of the Commission. 2. Vacant. (Barbara Marquez resigned effective January 29, 2014)** • Commissioner Frank Carollo has two (2) nominations for seats currently: 1. Vacant. (Maria Isabel Rodriguez resigned effective January 13, 2010)11 • Commissioner Francis Suarez has (2) nominations for seats currently held by: 1. Lyse Cuellar -Vidal, incumbent, whose term expires on March 13, 2015, has served as a member since May 11, 2006, and will require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5) vote of the Commission. 2. Connie Johnson, incumbent, whose term expires on March 13, 2015. For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board.
