A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION RENAMING A PORTION OF
VIRGINIA KEY, AS DEPICTED IN THE APPROVED VIRGINIA KEY MASTER PLAN,
TO "VIRGINIA KEY BEACH NORTH POINT PARK"; DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO TAKE ALL ACTION NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE
RENAMING OF SAID PARK.
WHEREAS, on July 22, 2010, the City Commission passed Resolution No. 10-0331, approving the
Virginia Key Master Plan ("Master Plan") as the guiding tool for the future development of Virginia Key,
creating a viable waterfront with recreational and public spaces, and for the protection and
enhancement of natural resources located on the island; and
WHEREAS, in the Master Plan, various portions of Virginia Key were delineated by area for
illustrative purposes, including areas marked as "North Point Park," and "Shrimper's Lagoon Public
Beach and Coastal Hardwood Hammock Restoration"; and
WHEREAS, the Master Plan envisioned the rental of kayaks and bicycles to park -goers for
recreational purposes; and
WHEREAS, in the intervening years since the adoption of the Master Plan, the City of Miami
("City") has taken concrete steps to fulfill this vision, including the environmental remediation of the
North Point, construction of mountain bike trails, and the issuance of Request for Letters of Interest
No. 12-13-068 for a Recreational Support Facility, for the rental of kayaks, canoes, bicycles, and other
non -motorized recreational equipment; and
WHEREAS, to showcase this portion of Virginia Key as a resource for outdoor recreation for all the
residents, guests, and tourists in the City, a renaming of that portion of Virginia Key is needed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are incorporated
as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission renames those portions of Virginia Key as depicted on Pages 9
and 10 of the Virginia Key Consensus Master Plan passed by the City Commission on July 22, 2010
as part of Resolution No. 10-0331, and made part of the backup thereof, marked as "North Point Park"
and "Shrimper's Lagoon, Public Beach and Coastal Hardwood .Hammock Restoration," to "Virginia Key
Beach North Point Park."
Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take all administrative action necessary to effectuate the

renaming of this portion of Virginia Key.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption and signature of the
Mayor. {1}

Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
